BioPak has been working with Rainforest Rescue to create a ‘Save the Cassowary’ 8oz single wall BioCup. We worked with the ‘Who Am I’ game to test coffee drinkers’ knowledge on this beautiful and shy creature.
Our aim is to raise awareness and funds to help this ancient and endangered bird, which lives only in the Wet Tropics of Queensland. It is a keystone species that plays a vital role in rainforest biodiversity by dispersing seeds and there are thought to be fewer than 1,000 left in the wild. Almost 100 trees and many rainforest animals depend on the Cassowary for their survival, so without them our rainforests will struggle.
BioPak will donate 20% of profits from the Cassowary cup sales to Rainforest Rescue to use in its cassowary conservation initiatives: habitat protection through land buy-back; restoration of vital habitat and corridors; the Garner’s Beach Cassowary rehabilitation centre; and scientific research.
Cups will be available for sale from BioPak, minimum order is one carton of 1,000 cups. To be released nationally on the 17th March 2014.
